Nancy Holt in "10 Years LA!"

Opening May 15, Monika Sprüth and Philomene Magers present in their Los Angeles gallery 10 Years LA!, an exhibition celebrating the gallery’s decade-long presence in Los Angeles. The exhibition is on show through August 8, 2026. 

Since opening its doors in February 2016, the gallery has featured solo and group exhibitions debuting new works by its iconic LA-based artists as well as major installations by artists from around the world, often bringing their work to the city for the very first time. In 2022 the solo exhibition Nancy Holt: Locating Perception saw key works by Holt on display in the LA gallery, including the expansive System Work Electrical System (1982) which filled the upper gallery. Earlier this year, the gallery hosted a screening event alongside the current exhibition Nancy Holt: Light and Shadow Poetics at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House.

Illustrating this expansive approach, 10 Years LA! fills not only the 10,000 square feet of the gallery at 5900 Wilshire Boulevard with works by a wide cross-section of Sprüth Magers artists, but also extends to the former Sizzler restaurant at 6145 Wilshire with an installation focusing on film and video. On show are two works seen in LA for the first time:  in the gallery Holt’s Locator with Mirror (1972) and at Sizzler her important 1974 videowork Underscan.

Films by Holt and Smithson on view at The Museum of Modern Art

Three films by Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson are currently on view at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, in collection gallery 411 of the David Geffen Wing. This presentation focuses on Spiral Jetty (1970), Swamp (1971), and Sun Tunnels (1978). Newly restored scans of the first two works are presented as part of a collaboration between Holt/Smithson Foundation and MoMA to preserve their moving-image work.

Chapter Nine of Tuesday Texts

Throughout February 2026, we are publishing the ninth chapter of our Tuesday Text Series as part of our ongoing Scholarly Text Program, which invites thinkers to focus on a single artwork by Holt and/or Smithson. Developed as a tool for researchers at all stages, the Scholarly Text Program aims to publish two essays on each work, presenting differing opinions and approaches and drawing connections to topics that range from geology and ecology to poetry, architecture, public art, sculpture, drawing, film, philosophy, site, and
