We are pleased to participate in the Soft Network Benefit Auction, open on Artsy from September 23 until October 7, 2026. The auction brings together works in support of Soft Network and the Artist Foundations and Estate Leaders List (AFELL), an international network for artists and stewards of artists’ estates and legacies. Soft Network supports legacy stewardship for under-resourced artists and artist’s estates, providing space for shared dialogue around this field and to redress exclusions in art history. Holt/Smithson Foundation has donated two rare works of art by Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson to the auction to help further this goal. 

Nancy Holt’s O Moon (1990) pictures the moon’s surface–with imagery sourced from an advertisement in the July 1967 issue of Sky & Telescope magazine–using a soft blue-green tone to connect a linear graphic interface and visual representation of the moon’s phases.  O Moon is a rare work in which the artist represents the moon directly as an image, and is also one of only two lithographs created by Holt.

In Movie Treatment Poster for Spiral Jetty (1970), Robert Smithson details the vision for his 16mm film Spiral Jetty (1970). This rare piece of artist-designed ephemera includes intricate illustrated storyboards depicting specific film sequences and snippets of script for Smithson’s own narration of the film ing was printed in a limited release on occasion of the film’s premiere in October/November 1970 at Dwan Gallery in New York City.
