“Starfire” at Powder Art Foundation Fall Open Day and Utah Museum of Fine Arts Land Art Week
Upcoming in Fall 2026, experience Nancy Holt’s elemental work “Starfire” on view at Powder Art Foundation Fall open Day and Utah Museum of Fine Arts Land Art Week.
“Starfire” (1986) consists of eight fire pits arranged in the configuration of the stars in the Big Dipper constellation and the North Star. Often used as a wayfinder and locating point in the sky, the reflection of this constellation illuminates the ground and the surrounding area, bringing the sky close to us on earth.
Now on view within the collection of the Powder Art Foundation, the relationship between sky, earth, and body can be felt in person, as the illuminated fires below reflect back to the sunset and starlight above.
Please join Holt/Smithson Foundation, Powder Art Foundation, and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in celebrating Nancy Holt’s stellar work as part of the upcoming Land Art Week, October 1-3, 2026, and Powder Art Foundation Fall Open House, Wolf Creek, Utah, U.S., October 2, 11am–3pm (GMT-6).
