Dreamscape: “Crossings” was Nancy Holt’s first lithograph, created as part of the Trisolini Print Project at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Established in 1978, the project invited contemporary artists to work in the university’s print workshops as artists in residence. Holt’s lithograph was printed in an edition of 75, with five artist’s proofs. The image derives from photographs Holt took of a sculpture model she photographed in a sand quarry near Bellingham, Washington, close to Western Washington University, where her Stone Enclosure: Rock Rings (1977–78) is located.
Holt later used the same title and an image of the lithograph to accompany a short text published in the catalogue for the 1986 exhibition Imagining Antarctica at the Nordico-Museum der Stadt in Linz, Austria.
Star-Crossed, like Hydra’s Head (1974) and Sun Tunnels (1973-76) is a sculpture Holt described as “bringing the sky down to earth.” It is sited on the campus of Miami University Art Museum, one of the few places where true (or astronomical) north and magnetic north met in 1979.
O Moon (1990) is a lithograph on black paper by Nancy Holt, produced in an edition of 16. It is one of only two lithographs she created. While the moon is a recurring point of reference in Holt’s interest in light, celestial phenomena, and visual perception, O Moon is a rare work in which she represents the moon directly as an image.
