Moon Sun Star Earth Sky Water

MoonSunStarEarthSkyWater is a concrete poem made by Holt in 1969. She cut a circle into a large sketchbook page and used dry-transfer lettering around its edge to write the words of the drawing’s title, each word linked by a pencil circle. As with the later works on paper The World through a Circle (1970 and 1972), it brings together several of her central interests. The moon, sun, stars, earth, and water reverberate throughout her five decades of art making. In later years she experimented with doubling the an image of MoonSunStarEarthSkyWater in a digital collage, seen above in the image carousel, and chose to include this version in the 2011 publication Sightlines.
